The Long & Winding Road
Barbara Bretthauer Marquez Froyland
Hello and welcome to my meanderings... |
A month of nights, a year of days
Octobers drifting into Mays
I set my sail when the tide comes in
And I cast my fate to the wind
I shift my course along the breeze
Won't sail up-wind on memories
The empty sky is my best friend
And I just cast my fate to the wind
Time has such a way of changing
my self throughout the years
And now I'm rearranging
my life through all my tears
There never was, there couldn't be
A place in time for us to be
Who'd drink the dark and laugh at day
And let our wildest dreams blow away
So now I'm old,
I'm wise, I'm smart
I'm just someone with half a heart
I wonder how it might have been
Had I not cast my fate to the wind

The Long & Winding Road...
I am Barbara Bretthauer Marquez Froyland.
My daughters (Carolina and Zoey) believe I am eccentric, melodramatic and intense...and we are. What else would you expect of the Great Great 28th Great Granddaughter of William the Conqueror and the Great Great 38th Great Granddaughter of Charlemagne?
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area...East Bay. However, I am actually a displaced Southern lady...from Miami, Florida. Although I've lived in Schenectady, NY; Cullowhee, NC; Los Angeles; San Jose; Santa Cruz; and finally Hayward, CA...
I still dream and
...Look up to the little bird
That glides across the sky
He sings the clearest melody
It makes me want to cry
I walk along the city streets
So dark with rage and fear
And I wish that I could be that bird
And fly away from here
I wish I had the wings to fly away from here"
Annie Lennox "Little Bird"
These pictures and pages represent the general path my life has taken with the rolling hills and the sharp turns...and hopefully, reflect some of the pleasure I have known and the nostalgia I feel as I consider the past.
My website is a "work in progress." Pictures, lyrics and poems are subject to frequent change....just like my moods.
Genealogy pages and music links will be added.
WARNING:
Occasionally, my mood reflects cynicism, tongue-in-cheek humor, darkness. My writings or choice of lyrics can be ironic or deeply sincere...warm like freshly baked bread or cold like a Schnectady winter...sharp like the edge of a knife or soft like a whisper. My words are a paint brush...this website is my canvas.
Stay tuned...
